Over the course of his career, Dr. Phillip Kapraun has become known for his expertise and innovation in treating racehorse lameness. He has owned and operated Harvard Equine Practice in Illinois since 1984. In that time, Dr. Phillip Kapraun has treated orthopedic issues in Standardbred racehorses and quarter horses as well as Morgans, western pleasure horses, and other performance horses.


Particularly focused on the treatment of osteochondrosis and osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), Dr. Phillip Kapraun has standardized the removal of OCD in Standardbred racehorses before they begin their training. He has also introduced honeybee venom as a treatment option for navicular disease and stands out as a pioneer in the use of Cobroxin for the healing of cartilage and connective tissue.


Dr. Phillip Kapraun has served as coauthor on a number of peer-reviewed papers addressing the incidence and treatment of OCD in Standardbreds. An experienced presenter as well, he has shared his insights before members of the Northern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association and the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine as well as the Iowa Harness Horseman's Association and the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association. He has also lectured internationally at the Australo-Asian Equine Conference.
